Machine Shop Supervisor – Manufacturing (CNC / VMC / Conventional)

Job Summary

We are looking for a results-driven Machine Shop Supervisor to oversee machining operations involving CNC, VMC, and conventional machines.

The role is responsible for achieving production targets while ensuring compliance with IATF 16949 standards, maintaining product quality, optimizing machine utilization, and driving continuous improvement initiatives in a high-volume manufacturing environment.


Key Responsibilities

Production Operations & Quality Compliance

  • Ensure strict adherence to IATF 16949 requirements, including Control Plans, SOPs, and Work Instructions.
  • Achieve daily, weekly, and monthly production targets with focus on quality and cost efficiency.
  • Monitor machining parameters, tool life, and process consistency to ensure product conformity.

Performance Monitoring & Improvement

  • Track and analyze OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), downtime, rejection rates, and scrap levels.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Drive improvements in cycle time, tool utilization, and process capability.

Machine Shop Operations

  • Supervise operations of CNC, VMC, and conventional machines.
  • Ensure proper tooling, fixtures, offsets, and machine settings are maintained.
  • Monitor machine utilization and ensure minimal idle time and optimal output.

EMS, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with EMS requirements, including coolant management, waste segregation, and disposal practices.
  • Maintain safe working conditions, enforce PPE usage, and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Ensure spill control, chemical handling, and environmental compliance as per statutory norms.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate with Maintenance for machine uptime and breakdown resolution.
  • Work with Quality for rejection control, process validation, and audits.
  • Collaborate with Planning and SCM for material availability and production scheduling.

Documentation & Audit Readiness

  • Maintain and review production records, traceability documents, shift reports, downtime logs, and rejection data.
  • Ensure readiness for internal, customer, and certification audits.
  • Support data-driven decision-making through accurate reporting.

Continuous Improvement Initiatives

  • Drive Kaizen, TPM, and 5S activities to improve productivity and workplace organization.
  • Identify and eliminate process losses, inefficiencies, and non-value-added activities.
  • Support implementation of Lean Manufacturing practices.

Team Management & Skill Development

  • Ensure manpower discipline, attendance, and effective deployment.
  • Provide on-the-job training to operators on machining practices, quality, and safety.
  • Enhance team capability to meet operational and quality objectives.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining, VMC operations, and conventional machining
  • Understanding of cutting tools, fixtures, machining parameters, and GD&T basics
  • Experience in OEE monitoring, RCA, and CAPA implementation
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 and shop-floor quality systems
  • Good leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and process sheets

Educational Qualification

  • Diploma / BE in Mechanical Engineering

Experience Required

  • 2–15 years of experience in machine shop operations (CNC / VMC / Conventional)
  • Preferably from automotive or auto components industry
