Plant Maintenance Head

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and result-oriented Head of Department – Maintenance to lead and manage all maintenance functions across the plant, including CNC, SPM, and VMC machines.

The role is responsible for defining maintenance strategy, ensuring high equipment reliability, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and leading a multidisciplinary maintenance team in an automotive/manufacturing environment.


Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Planning & Strategy

  • Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies aligned with plant goals.
  • Plan and execute machine overhauls, annual maintenance schedules, and shutdown activities.
  • Define and control maintenance budgets, spare parts inventory, and cost optimization plans.

Equipment Reliability & Performance

  • Drive high machine uptime, reliability, and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
  • Analyze breakdown trends, failure modes, and reliability metrics (MTBF / MTTR).
  • Lead initiatives to improve machine performance, accuracy, and lifecycle.

Safety, Compliance & Audit Management

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, EHS norms, statutory regulations, and IATF 16949 requirements.
  • Drive adherence to LOTO, PPE, and electrical/mechanical safety practices.
  • Support internal, customer, and certification audits with proper documentation and records.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Stores, and Engineering to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
  • Support new machine installations, commissioning, trials, and process stabilization.
  • Ensure availability of critical spares and infrastructure readiness.

Team Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of maintenance supervisors, engineers, technicians, and helpers.
  • Drive skill development, training programs, and succession planning.
  • Implement performance management systems and foster accountability within the team.

Continuous Improvement & Cost Optimization

  • Drive TPM, Lean Maintenance, Kaizen, and Six Sigma initiatives.
  • Optimize maintenance costs, reduce breakdown frequency, and improve energy efficiency.
  • Monitor KPIs such as maintenance cost per unit, spare consumption, and downtime losses.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong expertise in plant maintenance management (mechanical + electrical)
  • Deep knowledge of CNC, VMC, and SPM machine maintenance
  • Experience in TPM implementation and reliability engineering
  • Strong analytical skills for RCA, FMEA, and data-driven decision-making
  • Leadership, stakeholder management, and team-building capability
  • Budgeting, cost control, and strategic planning skills

Educational Qualification

  • Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Mechatronics Engineering

Experience Required

  • 15+ years of experience in manufacturing maintenance, including leadership roles
  • Preferably from automotive or auto components industry

Preferred Qualifications

  • TPM (Total Productive Maintenance)
  • Lean Maintenance / Kaizen practices
  • Experience with ERP-based maintenance systems
