Job Summary
To ensure supplier quality performance meets organizational, customer, and statutory requirements through effective supplier development, monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives, thereby supporting defect-free supply and on-time delivery performance.
Key Responsibilities
Supplier Quality Management
- Evaluate, approve, and monitor supplier quality performance.
- Conduct supplier audits including process, system, and product audits.
- Drive supplier corrective and preventive actions using 8D and Root Cause Analysis methodologies.
- Support supplier development and continuous improvement activities.
- Monitor supplier performance through PPM, rejection trends, and audit findings.
Quality Planning & Control
- Review and approve PPAP documents including APQP, PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, and SPC.
- Ensure supplier compliance with Process FMEA and Control Plan requirements.
- Monitor supplier SPC data and process capability indices (Cp, Cpk).
- Ensure proper interpretation and application of GD&T requirements as per engineering drawings.
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Lead root cause analysis using 7 QC Tools and structured problem-solving techniques.
- Handle supplier non-conformances, deviations, and containment actions.
- Drive initiatives to reduce supplier defects, line rejections, and customer complaints.
- Support cost reduction and process improvement activities at supplier locations.
Customer & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Purchase, Production, Engineering, and Stores teams for supplier quality issues.
- Support customer audits and resolution of issues related to supplier parts.
- Ensure timely communication, escalation, and closure of supplier quality concerns.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- GD&T interpretation and application
- SPC and process capability analysis
- Process FMEA and Control Plan
- PPAP & APQP requirements
- 7 QC Tools and structured problem solving
- Basic understanding of MSA and IATF 16949 requirements
- Supplier audit techniques
- Knowledge of machining, casting, forging, or assembly processes preferred
Experience & Qualification
Experience
- Minimum 3 to 15 years of experience in Supplier Quality within the automobile / auto component industry.
Qualification
- BE / B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical / Automobile / Production Engineering.
Preferred Exposure
- IATF 16949 standards
- Customer audits and supplier audits
- APQP / PPAP processes
- Manufacturing quality systems
